Eight Steps to Happiness



An introduction to Buddhist meditation and its application to our daily life. Based on Geshe Kelsang Gyatso’s book, Eight Steps to Happiness.

This series will introduce us to eight inspiring verses which comprise one of Buddhism’s most popular teachings, Eight Verses for Training the Mind. Each verse will show us how to transform our mind from our ordinary self-orientated perspective into the loving, courageous and wise heart of a Bodhisattva, a being bound for enlightenment. With each verse we’ll learn practical meditations that are powerful tools for overcoming our daily difficulties and pain. The main focus of the series will be on developing authentic love and compassion as a path to becoming the joyful, happy person we long to be.

July 19     Step Two: Enhancing Cherishing Love
July 26     Step Three: Exchanging Self With Other

Taina Rodriguez teaches the Sunday meditation class and is a senior teacher at Chakrasambara Buddhist Center. Raised in Puerto Rico and California, she has trained as a horticulturalist in New York City. She is well known for the clarity with which she teaches and her open and friendly manner is appreciated by all who visit the center.

About the Buddhist Meditation Classes at the Center in New York City
Based in the traditions of Kadampa Buddhism, each class is structured to include a teaching, two meditations, a group discussion, and a questions and answers session.

No special clothing is required, and pre-registration is not necessary. This class is a branch of Chakrasambara Buddhist Center in New York.
