8 Steps to Happiness: A course in Buddhist meditation
Why is it so hard to be and stay happy? According to Buddha, it’s not. In fact, it can be done in as little as 8 steps. But it does require a drastic change in the way we view ourselves, and others, as well as in how we respond to the conflict and hardship that arises in life. Meditation is the key to transforming the mind from a place of suffering to one of great joy that is able to withstand any adversity. This class will be based on the book Eight Steps to Happiness, by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, and will include weekly teachings on each step, accompanied by guided meditations. It is equally suitable for beginners as well as experienced meditators. Come ready to learn ideas that will challenge all your previous assumptions and that, when applied correctly, will lead to a lasting and unshakeable happiness that will be shared by others around you!

Paige Polisner is the teacher for the Upper East Side class in Manhattan. She works as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker at the Lexington School for the Deaf in Queens, where she provides individual counseling for students and teaches Peace classes. She became involved in Buddhism seven years ago culminating her search for a spiritual path that could answer questions and offer solutions where clinical psychology fell short. She was drawn to this particular presentation (New Kadampa Tradition) because of the rational and deep explanations for why we suffer, its emphasis on our limitless potential for positive change and joy, and the clear and practical methods offered for how to progress along the spiritual path. Her teachings are candid, heartfelt, and filled with personal experience.
